How a remote engagement works
- Conflict check and engagement. Counsel submits the matter through the conflict-check form; after clearance, a written engagement defines scope and schedule.
- Secure transfer. Records are transferred through secure means specified after engagement — never through the public inquiry form.
- Review and findings. Complete record analysis, including native-format imaging; findings delivered orally or as a written report under the disclosure rules of the forum.
- Testimony. Video depositions are routine in every jurisdiction; in-person deposition or trial testimony is available by arrangement, and Dr. Shomer is willing to travel.
What travels well — and what does not
Nearly everything in an ophthalmic file reviews identically at a distance: charts, operative notes, OCT scans, visual fields, photographs, biometry. The exception is the physical examination. When a matter requires an in-person evaluation, Dr. Shomer travels by arrangement, subject to availability and to the rules of the forum. Where an examination would not change the analysis, the engagement can proceed on the records alone, with the scope of the opinion stated accordingly.
One expert, one standard. The eye does not change at state lines. Acuity, fields, and OCT are measured the same way in every jurisdiction, and the medical literature is national. Counsel outside California receive the same analysis, the same candor, and the same transparent reasoning as local counsel.
